01-08-02:

All OIR classroom computers have been upgraded to Microsoft Windows 2000 and Microsoft Office XP. The multimedia consoles in Williamson 100 and Weil 270 have been replaced by new, smaller technology podiums.



09-05-01:

The Equipment web page has been updated to reflect the fact that all Florida Gym classrooms are now on the Classroom Network.



08-23-01:

Leigh 148 and Turlington 1321 are no longer being scheduled by the Registrar. Turlington B304 is a newly created Level-1 classroom on the basement level of Turlington Hall.



08-22-01:

New classrooms in Keene-Flint Hall and Frazier Rogers Hall are now listed in the equipment page. Keene-Flint has 5 new level-3 classrooms and 7 new level-4 classrooms. Frazier Rogers Hall has 2 new level-4 classrooms.



06-29-01:

The old consoles in Little 101, 109, and McCarty C 100 have been replaced with the new technology podiums. A padlock combination is now required to access the equipment. Call 392-6683 to obtain that combination.



06-06-01:

The old consoles in NRN 137 and Carleton Auditorium have been replaced with the new technology podiums. A padlock combination is now required to access the equipment. Call 392-6683 to obtain that combination.



05-25-01:

Classroom Network connections are now available in Weil 210, 212, 273, and 279.



05-12-01:

The software on all machines has been updated for the Summer semester. The old consoles in FAB 103 and 105 have been replaced with the new technology podiums. A padlock combination is now required to access the equipment. Call 392-6683 to obtain that combination. Tablet armchairs have been replaced in AER 303, BLK 415, NRN 331, NSC 225 & 227, WEIL 210, 212, 273, 279, and WEIM 1070, 1076, & 1084. All padlock/door combinations have been changed for the Summer semester. Call 392-6683 to obtain the updated combination.



04-12-01:

The following rooms have been upgraded from Level-3 to Level-4, with the installation of a tech podium (computer, document camera, etc.): MEB 229, MCCA 1142, MCCB G108, MCCB 3108, NSC 227, AER 327, BLK 315, BLK 415, CHE 316, FAC 118, LEI 242.



03-20-01:

Little Hall 117 and 119 are now level-3 classrooms with installed data projectors and VCRs. Little Hall 117 and 119, and Williamson 101 now have Classroom Network connections installed.



03-12-01:

New Engineering 100 has been retrofitted with a smaller technology podium, replacing the large multimedia bunker. Contact OIR Classroom Support for more information.



02-11-01:

Network connections in Carleton Auditorium, FAB 103, and FAB 105 have been switched over to the new Classroom Network feed. Classroom Network has been installed in FAD 329.



02-03-01:

New student seating has been installed in Black 315, McCarty A 2186 and 2196, and Mechanical Engineering 229, 234, and 238.



02-02-01:

Classroom network connections are now available in New Engineering 100, 101, and 202, Chemical Engineering 237 and 316, and Nuclear Science 225 and 227.



01-17-01:

The McCartyB G086 network outage has been repaired.



1-10-01:

McCarty B G086 network is down. The problem is major and may take several days to correct.



1-7-01:

Classroom network connections are now available in Turlington Hall classrooms 1101, 1105, 1315, 1321, 2303, 2305, 2306, 2318, 2319, 2322, 2328, 2333, 2334, 2336, 2341, 2342, 2346, 2349, 2350, 2353, 2354, Williamson Hall rooms 100 and 202, Rolfs Hall 205, and Fine Arts C rooms 102, 116, 118, 120, 127, 201, and 213.

Eight new classrooms are available in the newly renovated Anderson Hall. Rooms 13, 17, and 19 are Level-3 rooms (LCD data projector and VCR), and rooms 21, 32, 34, 101, and 134 are Level-4 rooms (Level-3 equipment plus installed computer and document camera).

The following rooms have been promoted from Level-3 to Level-4, with new tech podium installations (computer, document camera): B105 rooms 210 and 310, CSE 220 and 221, FAC 127, FLG 225, 235, 245, 265, and 285, LAR 239 and 330, N-Z 112, PSY 129 and 151, TUR 2305 and 2349, Weimer 1070 and 1076, and Williamson 202.



12-28-00:

Classroom network connections are now available in Matherly Hall classrooms 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18, 51, 103, 105, 107, 108, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119, 251, and in New Physics rooms 1011, 1101, 1200, 1216, and 1220.



12-21-00:

Classroom network connections are now available in Weimer Hall classrooms G030, 1070, 1074, 1076, 1078, 1084, 1090, 1092, 1094, and 1098.



12-04-00:

12-01-00:

Instructors may now submit classroom equipment reservation requests to OIR Classroom Support staff using the web form found on our reserve page. Telephoned reservations are still welcome at 392-6683.



11-22-00:

The multimedia lecture hall cabinets will be opened by appointment only during final exam week, and break. Please call 392-6683 at least one business day in advance to have a cabinet opened for your exam or any review sessions after December 7th.

The equipment page has been updated to reflect Classroom Network connections in AER 303 and WAL 201E.



11-15-00:

The equipment page has been updated to reflect completion of a new technology podium (computer) installation in NRN 331, and Classroom Network connections in Little Hall 101, 109, 113, 121, 125, 127, 201, 203, 205, 207, 217, 219, 221, 223, 233, 235, 237, 239, and Newins-Ziegler 112 and 222.



11-03-00:

The equipment page has been updated to reflect the completion of a new technology podium (computer) installation in MCCB 2102. The equipment page has also been updated to reflect the installation of classroom network connections in the following rooms: AER 327, ARCH 213, ARCH 215, ARCH 411, ARCH 423, BLK 315, BLK 415, BRT 407, DAU 342, FLO 100, LEI 104, LEI 142, LEI 148, LEI 207, LEI 242, MEB 211, MEB 229, MEB 234, MEB 238

Please note that LaserDisc Players and Slide-To-Video players (Navitars) will be removed from all lecture hall consoles for the Spring 2001 semester. This equipment will be available for delivery to any general classroom by request, for one day, or an entire semester. Please contact us at least one business day in advance to arrange delivery.



08-23-00:

New software has been installed on all installed computers. Minor version updates have been applied where available.

The equipment page has been updated to reflect the completion of new projector installations in DAU 342, LEI 207, and NRN 331, as well as new technology podium (computer and document camera) installations in LEI 207, TUR 2319, LAR 310, and MEB 211.

The technology podium installations in MCCA G186 and MCCB G086 have been renovated to comply with current standards.

Internet connections are now available in 3rd Floor Weil Hall classrooms.



08-09-00:

The equipment page has been updated to reflect the completion of new projector installations in LEI 242, MCCA 1142, MCCA 2196, NRNA 1331, NRNA G506, PSY 129, ROL 205.



08-02-00:

The equipment page has been updated to reflect the completion of new projector installations in MCCB 2102, MCCB 3108, MCCB G108, NSC 225, WM 202, and technology podium (computer and document camera) installations in Weil 320 and 328.



07-14-00:

The equipment page has been updated to reflect the completion of technology podium (computer and document camera) installations in AER 303, CSE 119, CSE 121, CSE 222, LIT 113, LIT 121, NEB 101, NRNA 2309S, NRNA 2309N, WAL 201E.



07-12-00:

The equipment page has been updated to reflect the completion of technology podium (computer and document camera) installations in LIT 113 and LIT 121.



06-30-00:

All student seating in Turlington Hall classrooms (rooms 1101, 1105, 1315, 1321, 2303, 2305, 2306, 2318, 2319, 2322, 2328, 2333, 2334, 2336, 2341, 2342, 2346, 2349, 2350, 2353, 2354) and Dauer 342 has been replaced. In addition, good chairs from those locations were used to replace chairs in poor condition in Architecture 213, 215, 411, 423, NSC 227, ROL 205, WM 202, as well as a few chairs in Matherly, Little, and Norman Halls.



02-22-00:

The equipment page has been updated to reflect the completion of new projector installations in Turlington 2305 and Matherly 103, 105, 107, 113, 115, 117, and 119.



01-31-00:

The equipment page has been updated to reflect new projector and VCR installations.



01-10-00: Updates for Spring 2000

All PCs received minor updates to Netscape, media players, and other minor programs.



08-23-99: Updates for Fall 1999 

All classroom PCs were updated to Windows 98 SE and Office 2000 Professional for the Fall semester.  Netscape, RealPlayer, and certain minor programs were updated to their most current version.  Minor updates were also made to the software on classroom Macintoshes, to such programs as Acrobat, Quicktime, and Fetch.

We now have data projectors in 84 classrooms and permanently installed computers in about 1/3 of those.  If there is no installed equipment in your classroom, we will deliver mobile equipment to your classroom for you, in most locations.  See the equipment page for specific information about your classroom.



07-30-99: Software Updates for Fall 1999 

All classroom PCs will be updated to Windows 98 SE and Office 2000 Professional for the Fall semester.  Netscape, RealPlayer, and certain minor programs will be updated to their most current version. 



07-07-99: Resources Page Added  

This website now contains a resources section for additional information on classroom technology issues. Follow the link on the menu on the left side of the browser window. We will add more information to this page over time. 



05-10-99: Delivery Service Expanded  

The Office of Instructional Resources announces the delivery of audiovisual and portable multimedia equipment for classroom instructional use. Please call 392-6683 to reserve equipment for delivery. Instructors should call one business day in advance in order for equipment to be delivered. A course number and classroom location is needed to reserve equipment for classroom delivery. 04-06-99: Lecture Hall Cabinets Locked  

The lecture hall multimedia cabinets will be locked during reading days and final exam week. Please call 392-6683 if you need access to this equipment during these times. 



03-25-99: Delivery Service Announced  

The Office of Instructional Resources announces the delivery of audiovisual and multimedia equipment to classrooms in Little Hall, Architecture, Fine Arts C, and Walker Hall. 24 hours advance notice is required to have equipment delivered. Please call 392-6683 to reserve equipment or for additional information. 



01-29-99: Laptop Connection Change 

This laptop connection change only applies to the classrooms that are equipped with the new projectors described below in the New Projectors Installed news item. The older projector connections remain the same. The new projectors allow for a laptop to be connected via a standard VGA extension cable. If you would like to hook up a laptop in any of our classrooms, we encourage you to contact us at least one day in advance to make sure that your laptop can be successfully connected. 



01-05-99: Minor Software Upgrade 

The computers in the multimedia lecture halls received a minor software upgrade from their previous configurations. The general capabilities of these machines remain the same. 



01-03-99: New Projectors Installed 

Over the winter break, the data projectors in several of the multimedia-equipped classrooms have been replaced with new projectors. These new projectors are brighter and offer a better picture. The recommended display resolutions for these projectors is 1024 X 768 or 800 X 600. The computers are preset to 800 X 600. The following rooms were replaced with the new LCD projectors: Carleton 100, Norman 137, Turl L005, L007, L011, Fab 103, Fab 105, McCarty C100 and Weil 270. 



01-01-99: Control Menu Changed 

The rooms with the new projectors have a minor menu change. In these rooms, the projector display and monitor display can be turned off by pressing PROJ OFF and MON OFF, respectively. Please be aware that when you turn off the new projectors, you may have to wait as long as two minutes for the projector to cool before it will display again. If the projector does not come back on within a few seconds, wait two full minutes for it to cool down, and then press the button again. 



09-10-98: McAfee VirusScan Updated 

McAfee VirusScan has been updated on the lecture hall and cart PCs to version 3.1.9 Licensed, and virus data file 3108, dated 8/15/98. 


08-24-98: New Computer Hardware Changes 

The PCs in all the multimedia-equipped lecture halls have been replaced. 
The new configuration includes: 

  • 400 Mhz Pentium II processor 
  • 128 MB RAM and 6 GB hard drive 
  • Internal 3.5" floppy drive and 100MB Zip drive 
  • Internal DVD-ROM drive with hardware MPEG-2 decoder. Plays DVD-ROM data disks as well as DVD movies. 
  • Syquest drives are not available on PCs. The SCSI Switch has been removed from all rooms (SCSI support is not available on the new machines).

The Macintosh computers will retain: 

  • Syquest, Zip, and CD-ROM drives 
  • All rooms except LIT 101 and 109 and FAB 103 and 105 now have internal CD-ROM drives. 
  • The external Zip, SyQuest, and CD-ROM drives have been relocated from the top-center cabinet to the same shelf that the Mac resides on.
New unpurged Faculty Work Space 

On the PCs, a hard drive partition is now available which does not purge itself of user-added files each day, like the standard partition. You are responsible for maintaining legal license for installing any programs or data files you install on this partition. The unpurged partition may be reformatted at any time if it ceases to function correctly. Contact the Multimedia Support Staff (392-6683) for more information on using this feature. All hard drives will be erased between semesters.  

On the Macs, a 50MB "Faculty Work Space" volume is mounted on the desktop. This partition is not purged daily like the Hard Drive partition. The Mac carts available in TUR 1215 and Norman G521 do not purge their hard drives at all. Again, you are responsible for maintaining legal license for any programs or files you install. All hard drives will be erased between semesters.  

New Computer Software for Fall 1998 

The new software configuration for the PCs includes:

  • Hummingbird HostExplorer 6.0 Internet Tools Suite (replaces LANWorkplace Pro (telnet, tn3270, ftp, etc.))

  • Carbon Copy 32 
  • Compel 1.0 and 2.0 Viewers

Network Connections 

Network connections (RJ-45 twisted-pair ethernet jacks) are now available on the panel on the top of the multimedia podiums in all of our lecture halls. If you wish to connect a laptop computer to the network in one of our rooms, please contact us at least a week in advance for configuration information.  O.I.R. classroom support staff can be reached at 392-6683 or classrooms@ufl.edu 

In addition to the lecture halls, 39 smaller classrooms in Little Hall and Turlington Hall are networked.  Configuration information for these rooms can be found at http://www.clas.ufl.edu/clasnet/classrooms. The mobile multimedia carts are pre-configured to use the network in these rooms.  

Other buildings such as CSE and Norman have multiple classrooms with network connections available for carts or laptops.  Please see the appropriate authority for configuration information, or contact us at 392- 6683 or classrooms@ufl.edu for assistance.
